ILS - Intelligent Street Lighting
The ILS project was based around the concept of innovative street lighting. Its main goal was to invigorate public interest in street lighting infrastructure. Apart from its use of existing technologies, sustainable materials and environmentally friendly design allows for a greater user experience during interaction. 
Features
The streetlight head has an integrated solar panel within the top mounted section of the panel. It features dual 180˚ cameras built-in the front and back of the head for a full 360˚ view for monitoring traffic and general surveillance.
Air Pollution
For many cities worldwide the presence of air pollution remains a widespread issue, one that is worsening at an alarming rate especially in areas that contain a highly dense population. In part to this problem the continous output of emissions in our society has afflicted the health of many. According to the WHO (World Health Organization) data suggests that ambient air pollution affects greater than 4 million annually
Function
Traditional street lighting has not drastically differed from its predecessors however the main goal of the proposed is to transition existing structures with a more forward design. As seen below, the range of brightness and colour temperature can be altered or set to adjust automatically according to its surroundings. A HEPA filter built in attempts to alleviate this issue by absorbing airborne contaminants and producing cleaner air.
From Steel to Magnesium
The shift towards more advanced materials greatly affect the performance and durability of the lighting infrastructure. In extremely harsh conditions the casing must be able to withstand and overcome those environmental challenges. Which is why the move from steel to magnesium is an extremely important one. Unlike steel or aluminium, magnesium alloys are lighter, stronger, provide UV protection, inherently contain EMI/RFI shielding as well as high impact resistance for additional strength. They also cost less than their counterparts.
